What is it like to live, work, study, and build a life in the Capital Region as an immigrant or newcomer?
The Capital Region Immigrant Survey gathered the experiences and perspectives of immigrants, refugees, refugee claimants, international students, temporary workers, and their family members living in our community.
The 2026 results provide valuable insights into the experiences, opportunities, challenges, and contributions of newcomers across the Capital Region. They highlight what is working well, where gaps remain, and where there are opportunities to strengthen settlement, inclusion, and belonging.

The 2026 survey findings will be released through six themed series, each exploring an important part of the immigrant experience in the Capital Region.
From belonging and employment to health, housing, community contributions, and priorities for change, these findings provide a deeper look at what immigrants experience and what can help build a more welcoming and inclusive community.
1. Belonging, Inclusion & Community Experiences
What does it mean to feel welcome and at home in the Capital Region? This series explores immigrants' experiences of belonging, inclusion, safety, community connections, discrimination, and overall well-being.
2. Immigrants & the Workforce
Immigrants bring valuable skills, education, and experience to the region's workforce. This series looks at employment, education, income, job matching, and the opportunities and challenges immigrants experience as they participate in the local economy.
3. Immigrant Health & Wellbeing
Access to health and support services plays an important role in settlement and quality of life. This series explores immigrants' experiences with health services, community supports, information, and other factors that contribute to health and well-being.
4. Housing & Affordability
Finding housing that is both suitable and affordable can shape an immigrant's ability to settle and thrive. This series explores housing experiences, affordability, income sufficiency, and the challenges immigrants face in meeting their basic needs.
5. Immigrant Contributions
Immigrants contribute to the Capital Region in many ways—as neighbours, volunteers, family members, professionals, entrepreneurs, and community members. This series highlights the many ways immigrants help create a thriving and prosperous community.
6. Immigrants Speak: Priorities for Community Action
What changes do immigrants believe would make the greatest difference? This series brings immigrant voices and recommendations to the forefront, highlighting priorities for improving access to services, employment, housing, health, social connections, inclusion, and opportunities to participate in community life.
From Insights to Action
The survey provides an opportunity to listen directly to immigrant voices and better understand both the strengths of our community and the areas where change is needed.
The findings can help inform CRIN, community partners, service providers, and decision-makers as they work together to strengthen settlement, inclusion, belonging, and opportunities for immigrants across the Capital Region.
