Memories of Lakmé - Souvenirs de Lakmé
Based on the opera by Léo Delibes
Premiered at the Opéra-Comique in Paris in 1883, composer Léo Delibes' opera Lakmé tells a story of impossible love. Lakmé, the daughter of a Hindu priest, and Gérald, a fickle English soldier, develop a passionate love for each other. Between these two people, who are complete opposites, refined and poetic music serves as a medium to express all the nuances of their tragic destiny. Whether through the harmonic warmth of the "Flower Duet" or the impressive brilliance of the essential "Bells' Air," Lakmé is a rich work, conveying the inspirations of the Orientalist movement of the late 19th century . Souvenirs de Lakmé retains all the delicate charm and intoxicating finesse of the original work.
