Inclusive washroom access
Employers commit to making single-stall washrooms available whenever operationally possible and to ensuring they are gender-neutral.
Employer Actions
Organizations should provide workplace washroom facilities that are inclusive, accessible, and respectful of diverse gender identities. To fulfill this commitment, organizations are encouraged to:
Provide gender-neutral single-stall washrooms where operationally possible
Use clear and inclusive signage that clearly identifies accessible washroom facilities
Ensure workplace practices respect gender identity and gender expression
Review workplace facilities regularly to identify opportunities for more inclusive washroom access
Provide staff awareness and education on respectful and inclusive facility use
Evidence Requirements
To complete this commitment, organizations are asked to:
Review workplace washroom access and related practices to identify opportunities for greater inclusion and accessibility
Implement at least two practices that support inclusive washroom access, such as:
providing gender-neutral single-stall washrooms where operationally possible
updating washroom signage to use clear and inclusive language
communicating respectful workplace expectations related to gender identity and expression
providing staff awareness or education related to inclusive facility use
reviewing workplace facilities for accessibility or privacy considerations
Submit a short reflection describing actions taken and future opportunities for improvement
Evidence may include:
Photos or examples of updated signage
Workplace communication or awareness materials
Facility review notes or improvement plans
Staff training or educational materials
Reflection summary
