Commitment 10:
Equity data and reporting
Employers commit to collecting voluntary and confidential demographic data to inform equity goals, and to reviewing and reporting aggregated progress on representation, retention, and advancement of underrepresented groups.
Employer Actions
Organizations should establish ethical and transparent practices for collecting and using demographic data to support equity initiatives. To fulfill this commitment, organizations are encouraged to:
Develop voluntary demographic data collection processes with clear purpose statements
Ensure participation in demographic surveys is optional and based on informed consent
Explain how demographic data will support equity goals and organizational improvement
Implement safeguards that protect confidentiality and secure sensitive information
Use inclusive self-identification categories that reflect diverse identities and experiences
Analyze and report aggregated data related to representation, retention, hiring, and advancement
Review data collection and reporting practices regularly to ensure compliance with privacy and ethical standards
Evidence Requirements
To complete this commitment, organizations are asked to:
Review or develop voluntary demographic data collection practices that support equity and organizational improvement
Implement at least two practices that support ethical and inclusive equity data collection, such as:
using voluntary and informed consent processes
providing clear explanations about how demographic data will be used
protecting confidentiality and secure data storage
using inclusive self-identification categories
reviewing aggregated data related to representation, hiring, retention, or advancement
Submit a short reflection describing actions taken and future opportunities for improvement
Evidence may include:
Demographic survey templates or data collection tools
Privacy or confidentiality guidance documents
Equity reporting summaries or dashboards
Internal communication materials or purpose statements
