Commitment 7:

Truth and Reconciliation Action Plan

Employers commit to reviewing the 94 Calls-to-Action, identifying the ones relevant to their organization, and creating a 1-5 year plan to address them. 

Employer Actions

Organizations should take a structured and accountable approach to implementing relevant Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action. To fulfill this commitment, organizations are encouraged to: 

  • Review the 94 Calls to Action and identify those most relevant to the organization’s mandate, sector, and operations 

  • Conduct internal assessments to identify current practices, gaps, and opportunities related to reconciliation 

  • Develop multi-year action plans with clear priorities, timelines, and responsibilities 

  • Engage leadership, employees, and Indigenous partners or advisors where appropriate 

  • Establish measurable goals and indicators to monitor progress and accountability 

  • Promote ongoing learning about reconciliation and Indigenous perspectives throughout the organization 

Evidence Requirements

To complete this commitment, organizations are asked to: 

  • Review the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action and identify those most relevant to the organization  

  • Conduct an internal review to identify current practices, gaps, or opportunities related to reconciliation  

  • Develop a reconciliation action plan that includes priorities, timelines, and areas of responsibility  

  • Implement at least one action that supports reconciliation, Indigenous inclusion, or ongoing learning within the organization  

  • Submit a short reflection describing actions taken and future opportunities for growth and accountability  

Evidence may include: 

  • Reconciliation action plans or planning documents  

  • Internal assessments or review summaries  

  • Staff learning materials or training records  

  • Meeting notes or engagement summaries  

  • Reflection summary 

Impact

The 94 Calls to Action provide a framework for addressing the impacts of colonial policies on Indigenous Peoples. By developing a multi-year reconciliation plan, organizations move beyond symbolic support toward measurable action, strengthening equity, inclusion, and cultural awareness. This commitment fosters accountability, respectful engagement, and meaningful collaboration with Indigenous communities, supporting long-term reconciliation.
