Commitments
Recruiting & Onboarding
Commitment 2:
Accessible and Inclusive Job Postings
Employers commit to job postings that are clear, inclusive, gender-neutral, and focused on essential job requirements.
Employer Actions
Organizations should develop job postings that are clear, inclusive, accessible, and focused on essential job requirements. To fulfill this commitment, organizations are encouraged to:
Remove non-essential qualifications that are not required to perform the role (Example: years of experience, driver’s license, or university degree, if not required for all employees in that role)
Use plain and gender-neutral language when drafting job postings
Focus job descriptions on core duties, essential skills, and competencies rather than “ideal” or inflated criteria
Include an inclusive hiring statement that encourages applications from underrepresented groups (Example: “We’re Committed to Building a Diverse and Inclusive Team”)
Explain how applicants can request accommodations during the hiring process
Review job postings using multiple reviewers and/or bias-reduction tools before publishing
Evidence Requirements
To complete this commitment, organizations are asked to:
Complete the Inclusive Job Posting Checklist.
Review or update at least one job posting using inclusive and accessible hiring practices.
Include information about how applicants can request accommodations during the hiring process.
Submit a short reflection describing changes made and future opportunities for improvement.
Evidence may include:
Job advertisements or screenshots
Updated job posting templates
Accommodation statements
Internal hiring templates or guidelines
Impact
Clear and inclusive job postings help more people understand job opportunities and feel confident applying. Using plain language and focusing on essential qualifications can reduce barriers in the hiring process. These practices support fairer and more inclusive recruitment.
