Commitments

Training & Development

Commitment 1:

Foundational Inclusion-related training management and staff

Employers commit that 50% of all employees will receive foundational inclusion training related to unconscious bias, anti-racism, intercultural competency, and/or cultural sensitivity within their first year of employment.

Employer Actions

Organizations should provide accessible inclusion-related training that builds awareness, knowledge, and accountability across the workplace. To fulfill this commitment, organizations are encouraged to:

  • Develop annual training plans that align with participation targets

  • Engage credible training providers and diverse facilitators where possible

  • Ensure training is accessible through formats such as virtual delivery, captioning, and plain-language materials

  • Provide a minimum of 90 minutes of foundational inclusion-related training during the first year of employment - training may be delivered through a single session or multiple shorter sessions

  • Encourage management and staff to attend training sessions together to promote shared learning, dialogue, and accountability

  • Track training participation and completion rates to monitor progress toward commitment targets

  • Share follow-up resources and learning materials to support continued learning and reflection

  • Gather employee feedback on training relevance, accessibility, and impact

Evidence Requirements

To complete this commitment, organizations are asked to:

  • Provide foundational inclusion-related training during employees’ first year of employment in alignment with participation targets

  • Implement at least two practices from the Employer Actions list above that support accessible and effective training delivery

  • Submit a short reflection describing actions taken, participation levels, and future opportunities for improvement

Evidence may include:

  • Training plans or schedules

  • Attendance or completion records

  • Training materials or agendas

  • Accessibility measures used during training

  • Employee feedback summaries

  • Internal communications promoting training opportunities

Impact

Inclusion-related training helps employees and leaders better understand bias, discrimination, and workplace barriers. Shared learning can strengthen communication, respect, and inclusion across the workplace. These practices help create safer and more welcoming workplaces for people from diverse backgrounds.
