Training & Development

Commitment 2:

Employers commit that 50% of all employees will participate in inclusion-related learning opportunities every year. Examples of inclusion-related training include: 

Ongoing Inclusion-related training management and staff

  • 2SLGBTQIA+ diversity and inclusion  

  • Anti-ableism and/or disability awareness   

  • Indigenous Reconciliation Awareness  

  • Intellectual disabilities  

  • Intersectionality  

  • Learning disabilities (dyslexia, dysgraphia, etc.)  

  • Mental Health First Aid  

  • Microaggressions  

  • Neurodiversity  

  • Trauma-informed workplaces  

  • Two-Eyed Seeing  

  • Addressing domestic violence as a workplace hazard  

  • Addressing sexual harassment in the workplace 

Employer Actions

Organizations should provide ongoing inclusion-related training that supports continuous learning and inclusive workplace practices. To fulfill this commitment, organizations are encouraged to: 

  • Develop annual training plans that align with participation targets 

  • Book training from credible providers and diverse facilitators where possible 

  • Ensure training is accessible through formats such as virtual delivery, captioning, and plain-language materials 

  • Provide ongoing inclusion-related learning opportunities throughout the year through workshops, webinars, discussions, or self-directed learning 

  • Organizations are encouraged to provide a minimum of 90 minutes of inclusion-related learning annually - training may be delivered through a single session or multiple shorter sessions 

  • Encourage management and staff to attend training sessions together to promote shared learning, dialogue, and accountability  

  • Track training participation and completion rates to monitor progress toward commitment targets 

  • Share follow-up resources and learning materials to support continued learning and reflection 

  • Gather employee feedback on training relevance, accessibility, and impact 

  • Encourage employees and leaders to apply inclusion tools and frameworks when planning workplace programs, events, services, and initiatives (Example: Inclusion Lens: Event Management Tool) 

Evidence Requirements

To complete this commitment, organizations are asked to: 

  • Provide ongoing inclusion-related learning opportunities aligned with participation targets  

  • Deliver training or learning opportunities on topics related to equity, diversity, inclusion, accessibility, reconciliation, or psychological safety  

  • Implement at least two practices from the Employer Actions list above that support ongoing inclusion learning  

  • Submit a short reflection describing actions taken, participation levels, and future opportunities for improvement  

Evidence may include: 

  • Annual training plans or schedules  

  • Attendance or completion records  

  • Training materials or agendas  

  • Internal communications promoting learning opportunities  

  • Employee feedback summaries  

  • Examples of inclusion tools or frameworks used within workplace practices  

Impact

Ongoing inclusion-related learning helps employees and leaders continue building knowledge and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion. Regular opportunities for learning and reflection can strengthen understanding of different experiences and workplace barriers. These practices support more respectful, inclusive, and equitable workplaces over time.
